Hilarious! At the same time, it's a little sad that such an extreme example has to be used to get people to see how silly those "protect marriage" propositions are.
Here's where I get to be the fanatic: such a proposition is way overdue. The irony of where this campaign comes from does not elude me, but the truth of the idea cuts to the very quick of what is so very, very wrong in our society right now. The blurring of the distinction between church and state is so obvious in this arena. Civil unions are the business of the state, marriages are the business of the church. No more than the church being required to acknowledge and accept civil unions, neither should church marriages carry any weight of law beyond the congregations that sanctify them. We don't let the church grant divorce; why should we let it grant legal marriage?
